About Us

Ryan and Courtney Bauer, together with their sons, Kase, Kash and Krue, run Bauer Farms in Bucyrus, Kansas. Ryan and his dad have ran a Balancer cow calf operation for years and in 2015 Ryan and Courtney came together to grow the operation and expand to what soon became Bauer Farms. What started with the intention of raising some feeder pigs and a couple of the weaned calves for processing just to fill their own freezers, turned into selling the meat locally and quickly grew in scale. Within the next couple of years, free range eggs and Cornish Chicken were added to the list of available products. Gaining knowledge and understanding of what they liked and what consumers were looking for, careful consideration of breed trait attributions and quality genetics became very important to Ryan and Courtney.

In addition to their successful meat production side of Bauer Farms, Courtney convinced Ryan to go with her to look at a Highland Heifer that see had been eyeballing online (he had no interest in getting out of the black cattle and into anything with horns). Once they got to the farm and checked out this heifer, Courtney instantly knew this was the direction she wanted to go. Their highland fold started right then and has grown to over 40 head of registered cattle since 2015. Focusing not only on preserving the exceptional standards and traits of the Grand Ol' Breed, but also dedicated to breeding so to minimize flaws and improve functionality through quality genetics.
